Sport SA Secures 35 Funded Traineeships

Sport SA has secured 35 funded traineeships following the release of the South Australian government's subsidised training places in sport and recreation under the Skilling South Australia initiative.  Investing in a trainee can help grow your business and keep young people in South Australia.

Nominee for Coach of the Year in the South Australian Sports Awards this year Tony Bamford completed a traineeship in the mid-1990 and hasn't looked back.  His stellar career includes working in SANFL for more than 17 years, most recently producing a raft of first round draft picks for the AFL 2019 season.  He believes the traineeship set him up for a career pursuing his life-long passion.

Sport SA is working on innovative ways of delivering traineeships in partnership with our member organisations including placements where trainees can gain experience in a variety of settings, providing service to a range of clubs who may not have the work load for a full-time trainee, but where a part-time trainee might be of benefit.

Any organisation involved in sport and recreation can apply to have a trainee - this includes schools, gyms, sporting clubs and many other associations.  Eligibility and subsidy criteria apply.

Trainees must be enrolled with Sport SA before 14 June 2019 to be eligible for a funded position and places are now open.

From the CEO:

It has been a busy week of settling into the new role, I am very excited by the possibilities that this exciting and challenging position brings.

Fundamentally I know that the power of this organisation is in its collective power. We are a community of like-minded organisations who’s individual sports and associations may have different names but ultimately we are united in our goals to improve participation, performance and our industry as a whole.

My role and our role at Sport SA is to support you in achieving this as your industry peak body. We can do this much better if we work together to understand the challenges and barriers that you may be facing and to collectively celebrate the successes along the way.

I have circulated a discussion paper on the National Sports Plan via email and now invite our members and partners to engage in a conversation about the opportunities and challenges that the plan brings to the South Australian sports landscape.  To gauge the interest in the coversation I ask that you register your Expression of Interest at the link below to allow us to plan a suitable venue.
